Should I use SSL?
On our opinion it all depends on what you are transferring. If you are uploading some pictures or similar
items, you can get away with standard HTTP transfer. HTTP transfer is typically slightly faster than SSL as
the SSL protocol requires a slight amount of data overhead to encrypt/decrypt the packets. For data such
as important documents, accounting files, etc. We reccommend using SSL/HTTPS.
What is the FTP gateway?
The FileGenie FTP gateway allows users to use a FTP compliant application such as cuteFtp to access their
files. It provides some added features over the web interface such as the ability to resume upload and
downloads that have failed for some reason. This is very nice for users transferring large files, as with
HTTP uploads, if the transfer files, the entire upload is useless. We will be adding SSL security onto
the gateway shortly. Also there is some auction software that can integrate to store images for
auctions.
